The West End musicals set to wow the crowds this June

Chicago the musical London

Summer is here – finally! – and that’ll be the prompt many of us need to arrange a few days in London seeing the sights and possibly go to see one of the many fabulous West End musicals.

There are countless theatre productions taking place in London’s West End at the moment, from relatively new releases like Shrek to timeless classics such as Les Miserables. Ticket prices vary, so shop around online for the best deals and scour sites like Ticket.com as there are always discount deals to be had.

All you need to do now is to pick a show to go and watch…here’s the pick of what’s on this June:

Wicked
Ever wondered what happened in the Land of Oz before Dorothy Gale arrived complete with those famous ruby red slippers? Wicked is the prequel to The Wizard Of Oz and tells the story of two witches, Elphaba, who eventually becomes the Wicked Witch of the West, and Galinda, who goes on to be known as Glinda the Good Witch of the South. Mix together a fantastic soundtrack, an intense plot and it’s hardly surprising that Wicked tickets have been in high demand ever since it arrived in the West End in 2006.

Blood Brothers
Powerful, emotive and brilliantly raw, Blood Brothers is a dark musical exploring the lives of two estranged brothers from Liverpool who are eventually reunited after being separated at birth, but the reunion provides anything but a happy ending for Mickey and Edward and their families. Blood Brothers has been wowing West End crowds since 1988 – and over two decades later is just as popular as ever.

Chicago
Give 'em the old Razzle Dazzle and head to see Chicago for a murder mystery who dunnit with a difference. The theatre version of Chicago started out in Broadway in 1975 and has since toured the world, thrilling millions of theatre fans down the years in the process, while the 2002 film starring the likes of Richard Gere, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Renée Zellweger grossed over $300million at the box office, highlighting just how well liked the story it is. For anyone unfamiliar with the plot, Roxie is found guilty of murder, is sent to prison where she meets Velma and the duo enlist the help of a lawyer to help clear their name and make them famous.
