Pai Skincare: all about those miracle red berries

Rose hips

It's hard work squeezing the juice from rosehip, those tiny red berries appearing in autumn after roses have bloomed. Because it is hard work, rosehip oil is precious and very valuable. Rosehip tea is usually recommended for colds as the berries are packed with vitamin C.

Rosehip oil has an intense orange colous because it contains carotenoids (vitamin A) which nourish the skin. In fact, this oil contains trans-retinoic acid which main function is to repair the skin. Unlike retinol, which may cause skin irritation, trans-tetinoic acid provides protection from the weather elements such as damage from the sun.

Rose hips are a vitamin powerhouse as they contain vitamins A, B, C. E and K plus antioxidants including lycopene. Normally, to be able to use oils from plants and seeds, you need to extract them with steam, solvents or pressure. Unfortunately, both steam and solvents may change the chemistry of the oil which will therefore lose some of its volatile components and potency.
Pai Skincare uses CO2 compression which does not alter the molecular structure of the final oil product.
After using Pai's pure rosehip oil and comparing it to other off-the-shelf products which tend to have a pale colour (a possible sign of dilution with other, less precious oils) I have noticed an improvement in my skin. Among the benefits of applying rosehip oil to the face are the fading of scarring, the reduction of fine lines and the nourishment of the skin.
Harsh winters contrasted with dry heated rooms can deplete the skin of its moisture. Face oil acts as a rich barrier to protect the skin from the elements. For a normal day to day moisturiser, Pai Skincare's Rosehip and Chamomile moisturising fluid is light but very soothing for sensitive skin.
My preferred daily skincare regime includes massaging the rosehip oil first using a very precise massage technique followed by the rosehip and chamomile moisturiser. You can watch a short video below where I explain how to apply the products and massage them in for better results and to achieve a youthful, glowing complexion.
You can book Pai Skincare facials at Cobella Salon and stock up on rosehip oil at Chelsea Health Foods on King's Road.
