Richard Hughes

The Sydney Arms is proud to present an evening with Irish flat jockey Richard Hughes who will be signing copies at the launch of his eagerly awaited autobiography: ‘A Weight Off My Mind’ this Wednesday 23 May.

The Sydney Arms will be hosting the evening under starter’s orders, from 7pm where Hughes will be answering your questions alongside racing journalist and writer Lee Mottershead of The Racing Post who teamed up with the jockey following previous work on his critically acclaimed column.

The event will be incorporating the aid of World Horse Welfare with an auction lead by Racing UK presenter Nick Luck, which will include a pair of breeches’ signed by Richard Hughes.

There will also be a raffle on the night as one lucky winner will be given the twenty-fifth share of the pub's horse racing syndicate. The horse ‘Carry On Sydney’ is to be trained by Richard Hannon Jr, son of British horse trainer Richard Hannon.

Published by Racing Post Books, ‘A Weight Off My Mind’ is described in the foreword by eleven times Champion Jockey, Lester Piggott as “A wonderfully readable and remarkably frank account of a great riding career.”

With an explosive prologue that sees Richard Hughes drink a bottle and a half of champagne, take fourteen ‘pee pills,’ eat ten whole oranges and pass out in the toilets at Royal Ascot, Hughes’s long-awaited autobiography continues to be as revealing, often shocking and simply engrossing throughout.

Just a stone’s throw from King's Road, The Sydney Arms, located on Sydney Street, Chelsea, is part of the Thoroughbred Pub Company. With its unique sporting concept and wealth of connections with the racing world, it is a safe bet, the company is set to establish The Sydney Arms as London’s premier racing pub.

With five screens, both in- and outside, the Chelsea sports-bar shows all the best live sporting action including race meetings such as the Grand National and Royal Ascot for which they have a preview event coming up on 12 June.

“Racing has always been a part of my family” say’s owner James Ramsden, “the goal is to create a unique environment for people involved in racing, especially in Chelsea, with the hope of attracting new people to the sport also.”

Do not miss this unique opportunity to come along and purchase a signed copy of the book. If you're lucky, you may even receive a tip or two.
