Girls in this part of town love their mascara. Whether they go sleek and fluttery or apply it with military precision to create those come hither 60s lashes, we’re gaga for the black stuff. But what if you could have maximum eyelash impact without a slick of mascara? I heard that collective intake of unbelieving breath but hear me out.
BECCA have just re-vamped their flagship makeup store, nestled a stones throw from South Kensington tube. It’s stunning inside with long sleek counters and long, drop lamps that hang from the ceiling and it’s where I found myself one recent Saturday sipping chilled water from a cut glass goblet and flicking through LOVE waiting for my eyelash extension appointment.
Asma runs Boudoir Lashes from inside BECCA and sits companionably next to me asking if I have any questions and taking pictures of my (makeup-less) face so I can see the full effect after I’m lashed up.
She runs through how to take care of them once they’re on and asks me what I want sort of look I want to achieve. Nonplussed having never thought of eyelashes having a look I mumble something about not looking like an extra in TOWIE.
Then it’s downstairs to a very comfortable table bed on which I promptly dozed off after my eyes have been prepped.
The bottom eyelashes have a tendency to stick to those up top so sticky white plasters are used to hold the eyes apart which I have to admit is not the most comfortable thing you will ever have done to you but beauty is pain people. An hour or so later after feeling nothing but a light ruffle around my eyes they’re done and holy moly do they look good: long and thick without being drag queeny it was love at first sight AND I don’t have to wear mascara for up to six weeks which is going to seriously reduce my morning routine.
On my way out the lovely girls at BECCA gave my face a quick once over so I left looking all dewy and smug. That night a steady stream of compliments came my way, as people were amazed at how well I had applied my mascara. I thought about keeping my secret but girls have to stick together so Boudoir Lashes is now on all my friends speed dial.
Asma is offering half price lashes up until Christmas but book quick; I reckon she’s going to be very busy.
